Mail Call for 11-8

November 09, 2004

"After reading Mail Call on Thursday, I see that you Kerry supporters must not have listened to his speech. He asked his followers not to be angry, but to try to unite and get rid of all the bitterness. To the elderly person who said none of their people has sense enough to vote for the right person and that we don't have a democracy, we do have a democracy and do have the right to vote our choice. We will never be a united country if after every election, the followers of the losing candidates continue to bash the winner. How very sad."

- Hagerstown

"Congratulations to Todd and Kay Harrison for running in and completing the Baltimore Marathon. All of your long runs and training really paid off. Good job."

- Hagerstown

"Someone in Mail Call tried to explain how the Electoral College works. Well, that person doesn't know either. Of course, we know about each state being allotted a certain amount of votes, but my question is: How does this come about? What are electoral votes, who decides how many electoral votes are allowed? Bring it on in layman's terms."

"I am calling about the plan for three new schools in Washington County. We have all this development going on, there are more than $210 million dollars worth of homes going on Md. 65 in Hagerstown and we need $171 million to build three schools in the next six years. Right now is the time for this county to act and have impact fees on those developers. Out of that $210 million, how much of it is really profit? That developer is going to leave this county and leave the tax burden on the taxpayers to come up with this money to pay for these schools. We are going to have expenses, but we don't need to support the rich anymore. They need to pay their own way, like we have to pay our own way. The citizens of Washington County need to stand up and tell the commissioners that enough is enough."

- Washington County

"I just wanted to say that I was so tickled on how the election turned out. People really voted on morals and that is a good thing. This country still has hope when you see something like this happen. I am glad Bush won and the 'W.' in his name stands for 'Win.'"

- Frederick County

"I was just thinking about this thing with the election. I think it's sad that the state of Maryland is always being put down."

"What do other people think about the terrible parking situations at the schools on Tuesday when you went to vote? I couldn't find a parking place anywhere."

- Hagerstown

"To the Mail Caller in Thursday's paper who said to the people in Hagerstown who see the signs saying the streets are coming. It should say: To the people who see the signs saying that the street sweeper is coming and you decided to rake your leaves into the streets. Well, to me that is just pure laziness."

- Hagerstown

"I just want to tell all you people in Hagerstown and in the United States how close you came to flushing this country, what's left of it, right down the drain by almost putting that liberal in office."

- Hagerstown

"I am so happy, I love President Bush, I love his tax cuts, I am better off financially this year than I was four years ago. I am so glad the way the election turned out and I can't understand why people hate him so much."

- Hagerstown

"I think it's a shame that this poor person was murdered on Cannon Avenue the other night. I don't know what happens to our police, but you sure don't see them down around that area. They say they are cleaning up the area, but they aren't doing anything, unless they are invisible. And to think that we are soon going to have college kids down around that area or close to it, very soon."

- Hagerstown

"Penny Nigh called a state a state and that is why she will be re-elected in March, just like Bush got re-elected in November, when people didn't think he would get back in either. He also called a state a state and neither one of them, Bush or Nigh, have unethical values."

"I think all the Kerry people should start acting like adults instead of babies. Bush is our president and everyone should support him because that is what America is all about."

- Williamsport

"I want to thank the person who stopped on I-81 the other morning when I hit a deer. He stopped to make sure I was OK and that my car was OK. So thanks a lot."

- Boonsboro

"For the person who left a Mail Call about pictures of David James Elliott from 'JAG.' I have a computer here at home and if you would like me to, I can print out some pictures for you. My name is Dawn and my number is 240-420-0481."

- Hagerstown

"What was the ad on Oct. 31, page C14, that had you disgusted?"

- Hagerstown

"I was at Pangborn Park the other day and noticed by the pond a lot of duck eggs in the water, far away from the ducks. I was wondering if the city knows about this. Are they still going to be able to be hatched? If not, that will be sad and that will be about 20-some ducks that will not be able to be born."

- Hagerstown

"About Penny Nigh, I think she manages her anger very well. I think if I had to sit beside Mr. Metzner and put up with his rustling of papers and so forth, I think I would have blamed him. She has extraordinary anger management skills already."

- Hagerstown

"In regards to last Sunday's paper on Page C14. I appreciate the reason for the ad, but feel it could have been presented in a better way."

- Hagerstown

"Keep up the good work, Penny Nigh, you are doing a great job and I just wish that there were more people like you out there, then we wouldn't have the problems that we do now."

- Hagerstown

"I read the paper and I see where Bush won. I guess the poor will get poorer and the rich will get richer."

- Keedysville
