Chambersburg's Morrison finishes 12th at state meet

HERSHEY, Pa. - Chambersburg sophomore Sarah Morrison was the area's lone medal winner at the PIAA state championships Saturday.

Morrison placed 12th in the Class AAA girls race, covering Milton Hershey Senior Hall's hilly 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 33 seconds. She guided the Trojans to a sixth-place finish in the team standings with 257 points. Unionville, led by individual champ Katie Thaeder (19:09), a senior, won the team title with 86 points.

Also for Chambersburg, Brooke Jacobs was 32nd (19:56), Samantha Jones 112th (20:54), Regina Heiser 164th (21:17) and Sarah Osterman 176th (21:23).

James Buchanan finished eighth in the Class AA boys team standings with 255 points. Scranton Prep won with 122 points. McGuffey senior Jeff Weiss won the race in 15:45.


Dillon Gracey placed 48th (17:26) to lead the Rockets, while Jed Yeatts was 72nd (17:41), Jeremiah Kimberley 94th (17:53), Andy Jacobs 116th (18:05) and Ryan Thrush 211th (18:58).

JB's Aileen Martin finished 102nd (21:15) in the Class AA girls race, won by Brentwood freshman Rachel Erny (18:50). Saint Basil was the team winner.

Cedar Cliff won the Class AAA boys race. Manheim Township junior Craig Miller defended his individual title in 15:54. Chambersburg's Jeremy Eshleman finished 131st (17:39).


Middletown 3, Winters Mill 1

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Meagan Sheffler, Whitney Boyer and Jen Hagemann each scored a goal as Middletown beat Winters Mill in a Class 2A West semifinal.

The Knights (10-7) will play at South Carroll on Tuesday in the 2A West final.
