mailcall for Nov. 5

November 06, 2004

"Could you please tell us what C14 in Sunday's paper actually meant? A group of us have come up with several different theories and none of them very good. We're all between the ages of 16 and 24 and thought it was not a very good ad and we're also kind of confused. Was it promoting voting, teenage sex, abortion, Bush, Kerry or nudity? We were just wondering if anyone at the paper knew exactly what it was telling everyone. We didn't."

- Washington County

"I'm so glad that the elections are over. Now please take down all those signs that everyone has been complaining about and stealing. Let the thieves have them now."

- Hagerstown

"Now that Bush has four more years, maybe he could bring prayer back to school and public events. If we are a nation under God, then let us prove it."

- Hagerstown

"This is Judy calling in regards to the person who wanted an update on Greg. He turned 36 on Oct. 6. He is recovering from the brain surgery nicely and I want to thank everyone for the cards."

"I wanted to comment about a call that was in last week where they said the Kerry scared their grandmother to death about her Social Security. Well, she should be scared to death about it, especially with Bush back in there, that is the first thing on his agenda. So Social Security as we know it now, is in big trouble."

- Hagerstown

"A reward will be offered to anyone finding a set of keys with a 10- to 12-inch black cord. It was lost on Monday, Nov. 1. Please call 301-733-8367. If nobody answers, leave a message."

"Way to go, Penny! I am so glad that we have one person in this city who will stick up for us people in Washington County. Too bad you aren't our mayor."

- Hagerstown

"Forty-one percent of Americans in the polls still believe Saddam helped plan that attack on 9/11 and 67 percent of Americans believe that Saddam and al-Qaida had strong links. The most costly investigation in American history, produced the 9/11 report, which disputes this information. It said that Saddam didn't have strong links with al-Qaida and certainly had nothing to do with 9/11. The president has said that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. So why do Americans still believe this?"

- Hagerstown

"I understand Kerry had to call France and ask for permission to concede the election."

- Washington County

"I just want to congratulate all you people that voted for Bush. Your boy Bush got back in and that just brings us to one problem. By the time Bush is out of office in four years from now, at this rate this should be around 40,000 casualties in Iraq. Well you got your boy back, congratulations."

"In response to the person who wants to know if I as a woman had gotten pregnant and something was wrong would I have an abortion to save my life. No - I would not. And by the way, Bush isn't telling anyone what to do with one's body. When I was a pregnant mother and the baby was growing inside me, that baby had its own DNA. We were two separate bodies. When you stand before God one day are you going to tell him he can't tell you what to do? Think about it."

"I'm totally shocked at the huge picture that The Herald-Mail has put in the paper on page C14. It takes away all the respect for unborn children and to add such a thing in a full page. You probably won't print this because it doesn't sound good for The Herald-Mail but you deserve it because you deserve to be looked at for what you did. I can't imagine who's working there that would even suggest such a thing and that those in leadership would even allow you to print it."

- Smithsburg

"This is in response to the person who wanted to know who took soda can tabs. The Knights of Columbus on Tuesday evening during bingo will take them."

- Washington County

"I never cease to be amazed at your newspaper. In Sunday's paper you can have a full page of a young girl expecting exposing her stomach and there is the president selected and you can't even have a postage stamp-sized photo of him in The Daily Mail. I'm just sorry this is the only newspaper in the area."

- Clear Spring

"My name is Santana and I am a 20-year-old first-time voter and on Tuesday night on TV it said only 17 percent of people my age group voted again. I mean this is really ridiculous. You know it's not like kids my age are doing much any way. Half of us are sitting around playing video games or hanging out at the mall all day. There's absolutely no reason why. I mean I'm just totally disgusted that no one got up and voted. It really makes me sick that no one can get up and go vote. What are you doing in America? Get up, get out and leave."

"Someone was calling wondering who saves the tabs off the cans. The AMVETS Post 10 on Frederick Street does."

- Hagerstown

"To the person who called in for the list of products made in America. Keep in mind that made in America usually means Mexico, Canada, Central or South America. Made in USA means made in USA."

- Hagerstown
