Mail Call

November 04, 2004

"I can't find the words to describe my feelings when I look at Sunday's Herald Mail on C14."

- Washington County

"I am glad that they raised the fee on the tag renewal. My income is $723 a month. So when I had to get my tags renewed this month, I had to let my utilities go and it's all supposed to Save the Bay that I can't even afford to go and see. So thanks for nothing to the senators and congressmen."

- Hagerstown

"I found some keys on the corner of Oak Hill Avenue and Cypress Street on Sunday morning. They were lying in the street. There are two keys on it, there is a CVS Pharmacy Care card, MVP Food Lion card and a little thing that says Hawaii. My number is 301-790-3811. Thanks."

- Washington County

"In response to the caller who said about Social Services paying for the grandmother to watch the grandchildren. Well, if you would get a job, then nobody would have to pay for your kids, or if you had a husband then Social Services wouldn't have to pay."

"I was wondering if anyone knew of any organizations that collect the tabs off the top of soda cans. I know that they go toward children with cancer or something. I have some to donate."

- Clear Spring

"On Tuesday, Oct. 19, between 2:30 and 4 p.m., I lost a silver megastone necklace with a large purple stone pendant framed in silver. It was lost at Robinwood Medical Center between the blue lot and Suite 245. I have notified Women's Imaging and general maintenance and have had no response. The necklace does not have a large monetary value, but is precious to me. I am offering a small reward. If you find it, call me at 301-797-7687."

- Washington County

- Washington County

"To the person who followed the bus in Smithsburg, if that girl wants to get off the bus and show her belly, she should be allowed to because not everyone has a Britney Spears body."

- Hagerstown

"I see that Mr. Brandenburg took over the ice rink and they say his salary or bonus is based on profits. Well, that place hasn't made a profit since they have been open and they haven't even paid the loan off yet."

"Everyone praises Penny Nigh. Well I think she needs to be voted out, she is very disrespectful and needs anger management classes."

- Hagerstown

"In Monday's Mail Call, someone said that they think a woman should have the right to say what she wants to do with her own body. That is fine, but she also needs to take responsibility for those actions as well. I wish people would think about this before they have unprotected sex and live up to their responsibilities. It's not the baby's fault that they made the decision they did."

- Hagerstown

"Another name for conservative is self-righteous."

- Hagerstown

"To the person who was complaining about the crosswalk at Walnut Street and people not stopping. Try being a student at Shepherd University where nobody stops for the crosswalk even when they have the flashing lights."

"I am calling to tell everyone that I have asked a lot of my friends if they were going to vote. They said no because you know who is going to get it anyway. Bush got it before and he's going to get it again. He just has to pay his way back in there. Bush isn't for the poor people at all because he has plenty of money and he is going to pay for his presidency."

- Boonsboro, Washington County

"I wanted to compliment The Herald-Mail on your book, 'Our Past, Our People.' I just purchased it and it's a lovely book. Everyone should try to get one."

"In reply to the 74-year-old who still thinks that the terrorists were in Iraq. None of the Iraqis attacked us, they were all Saudi Arabians. Bin Laden is a Saudi Arabian. I can't believe that people still think that the Iraqis had anything to do with 9/11, it's a shame that people are still confused by the Republican propaganda machine."
