Congressman Bill Shuster, R-9th, was well ahead of Democratic challenger Paul Politis Tuesday night in his bid for a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to incomplete and unofficial results.
In Franklin County, where Republicans outnumber Democrats by a 2-to-1 margin among registered voters, Shuster had 15,647 votes to 6,226 for Politis with 44 of 75 precincts reporting, according to county Election Board figures.
Districtwide, with 388 of 508 precincts reporting, Shuster had 118,972 while Politis had 54,872.
Shuster, 43, of Hollidaysburg, Pa., was elected to Congress in a May 2001 special election after his father, Bud Shuster resigned the seat he was first elected to in 1972. He won a narrow victory in the April primary over Republican challenger Michael Delgrosso.
