A Martinsburg, W.Va., man who was found dehydrated on Sunday near his car told police he had been trapped there for four days before being able to call police.

Brian Gerard Struntz, 43, told police that about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday he was driving eastbound on Interstate 70 near Crystal Falls Drive in Wasington County when a deer jumped out in front of his Subaru Legacy, according to a police accident report.

Struntz veered off the roadway, behind a guardrail and came to a rest about 30 yards from the edge of the highway, but out of sight from passing drivers, according to the police report.

On Sunday, police received a phone call from Struntz at 6:50 a.m. He told a state trooper that his foot had been trapped under the car since the Wednesday accident, and he had dug himself out Sunday morning and started his car to charge his cell phone, which had been out of reach until he freed himself.

State Police Cpl. T.J. McKenrick said Struntz was taken to Washington County Hospital on Sunday, where he was treated for dehydration.
