WILLIAMSPORT - A Williamsport man was charged with motor vehicle theft after a car was reported stolen from Williamsport High School's parking lot on Thursday, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The red 1992 Chevy Geo Metro was not in its assigned parking space, the police press release states. The car is owned by a Williamsport woman, but her son drives it.

The woman's oldest son spotted the car being driven on U.S. 11 at Governor Lane Boulevard and directed the driver to stop and pull onto the shoulder of U.S. 11, police said.

A deputy responded to the scene and Chad William Jones, 18, of 8121 Avis Mill Road, was charged with motor vehicle theft, theft and malicious destruction of property, police said.
