Housing complex sold

October 29, 2004

Washington Garden Apartments & Townhouses, a 100-unit housing complex on Security Road in Hagerstown, was bought Thursday by a Boston nonprofit organization, according to a news release.

Washington Gardens has participated in federal Housing and Urban Development low-income housing subsidy programs since it was built in 1982, including the Section 8 program, officials said.

Preservation of Affordable Housing, the Boston group that bought the complex, will maintain the complex as subsidized housing for families and soon will begin renovations, officials said.

The housing complex will be managed by Preservation Housing Management, an affiliate of the Boston group.

According to the Preservation of Affordable Housing Web site, the management company runs about 2,700 apartments in the Midwest in buildings ranging from 40 to 745 units.
