Bulldogs advance to state semifinals

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - Adam Polinik had a goal and two assists to lead Martinsburg to a 4-0 win over Bridgeport in the West Virginia Region II championship game Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (20-1-1) will play either Woodrow Wilson or Princeton in the state semifinals Nov. 5 in Beckley. Game time is 6 p.m.

Polinik scored on a 30-yard direct kick in the eighth minute to give Martinsburg a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Kent Lemaster scored off a cross pass from Trent Reid to make it 2-0. A goal by Nick Benavides on an assist from Polinik in the 28th minute gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 halftime lead.

Mark Dodson scored the only goal of the second half off a cross pass from Polinik.

Martinsburg outshot Bridgeport, 23-7. Keeper Matt Martin made five saves for the shutout.

Shalom 1, Grace 0

Nathan Adams scored the game's only goal as Shalom Christian edged Grace Academy in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference semifinal.


Andy Eyler had nine saves for the Knights (14-4-1).


Williamsport 2, Westmar 1

LONACONING, Md. - Sarah Tritsch and Morggan McGill each scored for Williamsport as the Wildcats beat Westmar in the first round of the Maryland Class 1A West playoffs.

Erin Moyer and Kendal Moss each had an assist for the Wildcats and Catie Vancour had nine saves.

Williamsport will play at top-seeded Allegany Tuesday.

Elkins 3, Martinsburg 0

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - Elkins defeated Martinsburg (12-7-2) in the West Virginia Region II championship game to advance to next weekend's state final four.


No. 1 Hedgesville 3, Fort Hill 1

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Megan Grant had 18 digs, 11 kills and seven blocks for Hedgesville in its 25-16, 25-16, 23-25, 25-6 win over Fort Hill.

Ryan Mills had 11 kills and 11 digs for the Eagles (18-2) while Kara Barnes had 18 assists and 12 digs.

Broadfording 3, Heritage 0

Cindel Young had 17 kills and 12 digs as Broadfording swept Heritage 25-17, 25-22, 25-21 in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference semifinal game.

Becca Conner added 28 assists for the Lions (16-4, 14-2) while Leslie Brown had 10 service points and Tina Conner had 18 digs and 13 kills.

CVCS 3, Grace 1

Shaina Liddick had 24 kills and five blocks for Cumberland Valley Christian in its 21-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-8 MDCC semifinal win over Grace Academy.

Caroline Geiger had 13 service points, 12 digs and seven kills for the Blazers (16-6) while Molly Brookens had 18 service points and four aces.

Megan Cox had seven kills and three blocks for the Knights in the loss, while Katie Kendall had seven points and nine digs and Kristin Serafini had 12 assists.

CVCS will play Broadfording in the final Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Maria Goretti.

Clear Spring 3, Brunswick 0

CLEAR SPRING - Ashley Crist had 16 assists and 14 service points to lead Clear Spring to a 25-12, 25-17, 25-8 sweep of Brunswick.

Ashley Tritapoe added seven kills for the Blazers (5-11) while Lindsay Fiedler had six digs and Lynsee Vincent had six kills.

Middletown 3, Catoctin 1

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Erin Burtner had 14 kills and 11 digs for Middletown as the Knights beat Catoctin, 25-23, 25-14, 20-25, 25-14.

Kyra Davis had 34 assists and nine digs for the Knights while Amanda Lewis had eight kills.

Connie Cuddahee had seven digs and Becky Peters had three aces for the Cougars (6-8, 4-5).

Smithsburg 3, Francis Scott Key 2

SMITHSBURG - Kayla Martin had 26 assists and 14 service points to lead Smithsburg to a 25-13, 20-25, 25-16, 20-25, 15-7 win over Francis Scott Key.

Kenzie Bowen had 10 kills for the Leopards (8-5) while Kim Sullivan had nine points and Mandie Conway had seven kills.
