Orange reflective vests available for Halloween

October 28, 2004

"Vests for Visibility" provides orange, reflective vests for parents to borrow - free of charge - to place over children's Halloween costumes.

The vests will be available in most counties at the Maryland State Highway Administration maintenance shops today and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A limited amount of reflective vests will be loaned out on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Vests for Visibility Program is an extension of SHA's 12 Months of Safety campaign, with the slogan "Crashes are no accident; you hold the key" - an effort to raise awareness about traffic safety.

The campaign incorporates the three E's of safety: Engineering, Education and Enforcement. Safety messages are shared with both pedestrians and motorists.
