To our letter-writers ...

October 26, 2004

Less than two weeks remain in the current election campaign. The Herald-Mail will make every effort to get in all election-related letters by Sunday, Oct. 31. Readers can help us if they would remember a few things, including:

· The amount of space we have is limited, so of necessity shorter letters will get preference over longer ones.

· The letters of those who have not written previously on election-related matters will get preference over those who have written repeatedly.

· Not everyone has e-mail, but if you have it, please e-mail your letters so that they don't have to be reset.

· If you send a letter by e-mail, fax or by surface mail, please include your name, address and daytime telephone number, so that we can check if there's something that seems unclear.

· No last-minute charges that are not supported by the public record, preferably coverage in The Herald-Mail newspapers, will be printed.

· Letters faxed, e-mailed or hand-delivered the day before the election are extremely unlikely to be printed. If you have an opinion to share, please do it sooner rather than later.

· When the election is over, all citizens - Republicans Democrats and Independents -will have to live and work together. Please remember that before you write something now that might make it difficult or impossible to cooperate for the common good after Nov. 2.
