BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - A Martinsburg, W.Va., woman was killed Sunday evening in a one-vehicle accident on W.Va. 9 in Morgan County, according to West Virginia State Police.

Irene C. Miller, 83, of West John Street was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:10 p.m. accident in the area of Clone Run Road, said Sgt. C.A. Mahood. A passenger, Mildred Sanders, 68, of Inwood, W.Va., was taken to Martinsburg City Hospital for treatment, but Mahood said her injuries did not appear to be serious.

Mahood said Miller lost control of the car on a curve and went off the right side of the road. The vehicle then swerved across the road, went off the left side and down an embankment, rolling over and hitting a tree, he said.

Both women were trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by rescue personnel, Mahood said. Miller and Sanders were wearing seat belts, he said.

Wet road conditions may have been a contributing factor to the accident, Mahood said.
