SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Brent Brockman scored a goal in overtime as Northern beat No. 1 Greencastle 3-2 Saturday in a playoff game to determine the Mid-Penn's fifth and final berth in the 16-team District 3-AA tournament.

Treavor Gelsinger had a goal and an assist and Jaren Gembe had a goal for Greencastle (16-2) in the first half, which ended in a 2-2 tie.

"We had great year. It's a shame it had to come down to this," Greencastle coach Scott Gelsinger said. "The boys knew we had to win it to keep playing, and I don't think we stepped it up to Northern's intensity. It just didn't look like our heads were in the game."

No. 2 Martinsburg 2 No. 10 Hedgesville 0

INWOOD, W.Va. - Trent Reid scored on an assist from Nick Benavides in the 15th minute of the second half to break a scoreless tie as Martinsburg beat Hedgesville in the West Virginia Region II Section 4 final.


Will Rouse scored three minutes later off a pass from Adam Polinik to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

Martinsburg will host Section 3 champ Petersburg on Tuesday in a region semifinal.

The winner will face either Elkins or Bridgeport in the region final Thursday in Buckhannon.

Bullis 3, No. 8 Mercersburg 1

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Stephon Fullerton scored off Matt Diller's feed in the 25th minute to pull Mercersburg Academy (7-5) even with Bullis School, but Bullis scored twice in the second half for the victory.


No. 9 Martinsburg 4 No. 4 Hedgesville 3

INWOOD, W.Va. - Martinsburg raced out to a 3-0 halftime lead and Kristen Marshall's second-half score proved decisive as the Bulldogs upset Hedgesville in the Region II, Section 4 final at Musselman.

Martinsburg (11-6-2) will play in the Region II semifinals at home Tuesday. Amy Short and Sarah Orr scored first-half goals for the Bulldogs.

Leslie Kirk scored in the 75th minute to pull Hedgesville (17-3-2) within one, but the Eagles misfired on opportunities in the final five minutes.

Kirk assisted the other two Hedgesville goals, finding Erin Breen on a corner kick in the 50th minute and Jen Hoffman with a pass in the 55th minute. Alicia Hess made five saves.


Francis Scott Key 32, Tuscarora 28

FREDERICK, Md. - Tuscarora threw a scare into Francis Scott Key before falling.

Eric Means scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards for the Titans (1-7, 0-4 MVAL Piedmont). Chris Castro ran for a 3-yard TD and threw an 11-yard TD pass to Mitchell Weedon for the Titans' other score.


No. 3 James Buchanan 3 Mercersburg 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Ashleigh Helfrick and Jess Snyder had 13 kills each and Snyder added five blocks as James Buchanan swept Mercersburg Academy, 25-20, 25-11, 25-14.

Tiff Hunsberger had 20 service points - five on aces - for the Rockets (20-2).

Libby Miga had 15 digs, Karin Marsh had 14 digs and Caity Barnes had nine kills for Mercersburg Academy (8-3). JV: JB, 2-0.


Broadfording wins Junior High title

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Broadfording defeated Shalom Christian in the championship of the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference Junior High volleyball tournament.

Cumberland Valley Christian defeated Heritage Academy for third place.
