MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Nick Benavides scored five goals and had two assists to lead No. 2 Martinsburg as it rolled past Musselman 10-1 in the Region II Section 4 semifinals. Adam Polinik added three goals and an assist for the Bulldogs (17-1-1) while Trent Reid and Dave Poland each had a goal.

Matt Dushing scored Musselman's only goal.

Martinsburg will likely host Hedgesville Saturday at 1 p.m. in the section finals.

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Josh Himic scored twice for Hedgesville as it held off Jefferson to win in the Region II Section 4 semifinals. Cody Seibert added a goal for the Eagles while Simon Lee-Feuillet added an assist.

Matt Speaker scored for the Cougars.

Georgetown 2, St. James 1


WASHINGTON - Steve Lee scored a goal for St. James on an assist by Luke Terry for St. James (5-9-3, 3-6-2). Nate Venditta had 15 saves.

Martinsburg 4, Jefferson 2


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Martinsburg scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to beat Jefferson 4-2 in the W.Va. Region II Section 2 semifinals.

After the Bulldogs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half, Jefferson's Gabby Carstens and Mattie Stevens each scored to give the Cougars a 2-1 halftime lead. Jefferson held the lead until the Bulldogs erupted for three unanswered goals.

Martinsburg advances to take on Hedgesville on Saturday.

HEDGESVILLE W.Va. - Leslie Kirk scored three goals, including one on a penalty kick. Jen Hoffman and Jenna Smith both recorded assists.

Jacquie Fisher and Jen Hoffman each scored for Hedgesville (17-2-1).

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Luciana Bolona had two goals for Mercersburg Academy. Jessie Tippen, Lauren Dobish, Kyle Taylor and Sonya Karbach each added a goal for the Blue Stom (8-5).

Gabby Turano had five kills and three digs and Jessica Myers had five assists for Goretti (1-12) in a loss to the Blue Strom, 25-11, 26-24, 25-18.

Mike Twigg had 137 yards passing and three touchdowns for North (5-1) while Jarell Hasan had two touchdowns and Jordan Granville, Dee Mency and Cadyn Robinson each had one.

BOONSBORO - Chris Selby returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown and added a 39-yard run to lead Boonsboro.

Matt Wetzel had two touchdown runs, while Kyle Kane, Will Dayhoff, Jessi Dalton and Brad Rohrer each had one for the Warriors (3-3-1). Matt Beall led the defense with 12 tackles, while Rohrer added 10.

Smithsburg 14, Brunswick 12


BRUNSWICK, Md. - Chad Brown scored two touchdowns to lead Smithsburg (4-3) past Brunswick.

Kyle McDannel scored on a 60-yard run, Brad Hewitt had a 5-yard touchdown run and Brandon Norris blocked a punt that Hewitt returned for a touchdown for Williamsport (3-2-1).

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Richard Smith scored a goal and had two assists for the Shepherd University as it beat Catholic University. J.J. Flores, Jamie Ritchie, Pat Quinn and Donald Fon each added a goal for the Rams (9-3-4) while Robert Pence recorded the shutout.

Slaninka injured


SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University head men's basketball coach Ken Tyler announced Wednesday that senior center Matt Slaninka will undergo surgery on his previously injured ankle early next week. The 7-foot-4 Slaninka will likely be sidelined for up to two months.
