Roundup - W.Va. sectionals are rescheduled

The West Virginia Class AAA Region II Section 2 semifinals scheduled for Tuesday evening were postponed due to rain. The games will be made up today and the schedule is as follows:

Girls: Jefferson at Martinsburg, 5:30 p.m.; Musselman at Hedgesville, 6.

Boys: Hedgesville at Jefferson, 6; Musselman at Martinsburg, 7.

In addition, the sectional finals scheduled for Thursday have been pushed back to Saturday with times and locations to be determined.


No. 1 Greencastle 10 Harrisburg 2

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Treavor Gelsinger scored twice and had an assist to lead Greencastle past Harrisburg in the Mid-Penn Colonial.

Darren Negly, Adam Haldeman and Devin Cordell each added two goals for the Blue Devils (16-1, 11-1) while Dustin Young and Derek Mowen each scored a goal.

No. 4 Boonsboro 1 St. James 0

ST. JAMES - Jake Munson scored the only goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 75th minute as Boonsboro blanked St. James.

Evan Lowery made three saves to post his eighth shutout of the season for the Warriors (13-1), who outshot St. James, 10-4.

Nate Venditta had eight saves for the Saints (5-7-2). JV: Boonsboro, 3-1.

Williamsport 7, Clear Spring 0

CLEAR SPRING - Derek Hadley scored two goals and assisted another to lead Williamsport to an MVAL Antietam shutout of Clear Spring.

Daniel Gossard had two goals, while Seth Shrader and Matt Oliver each added one for the Wildcats (7-7-1, 5-2-1). Andy Murray, Charley Spoonire and Phil Jordan had assists and Matt Sweigert made two saves for the shutout.

Big Spring 2, Waynesboro 1

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Marko Culum scored the lone Waynesboro goal on an assist from Alex Strait, but the Indians dropped their Mid-Penn Colonial finale to Big Spring.

Chris Taber had six saves for Waynesboro (4-11, 4-8).

Grace Academy 4 Broadfording 0

Jordan Hanft scored two goals for Grace Academy in a win over Broadfording in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference.

A.J. Serafini and Dalen Carlson each added a goal for the Knights (13-3, 12-2), while Andy Eyler recorded the shutout in goal.


No. 2 Tuscarora 1, Century 0

SYKESVILLE, Md. - Natalie Salovich scored on an assist from Courtney Yee just five minutes into the second half to lift Tuscarora to an MVAL Piedmont win over Century.

Emmy Simpkins had four saves for the Titans (10-2, 4-1), who outshot the Knights, 15-5.

No. 3 Catoctin 2, South 1

Stephanie Eyler scored for Catoctin as the Cougars beat South in the MVAL Antietam.

Melissa Cecil scored on an assist from Mar'ke Cosley for the Rebels (2-9-1, 1-6-1).

Williamsport 5, Clear Spring 0

WILLIAMSPORT - Morggan McGill scored a hat trick as Williamsport beat Clear Spring in an MVAL Antietam match.

Laura Scuffins had a goal and an assist, Blair Stone had a goal and Kendal Moss and Sarah Green each had an assist for the Wildcats (6-7-1, 3-4). Catie Vancour had five saves in posting the shutout. JV: Williamsport, 4-0.

WILLIAMSPORT - Sammi Snodderly had 17 kills and three aces for Williamsport as the Wildcats swept Catoctin 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 in the MVAL Antietam.

Lea Drury added 18 assists for the Wildcats (11-1, 4-0), while Emily Malott had eight kills.

Monie Cuddahee had 17 digs for the Cougars (4-7, 1-5), while Connie Cuddahee had 10 digs. JV: Williamsport, 2-0.

No. 3 James Buchanan 3 Steel-High 0

STEELTON, Pa. - Ashleigh Helfrick had nine kills and 16 digs to lead James Buchanan past Steelton-Highspire in Mid-Penn Capital action, 25-7, 25-6, 25-9.

Amy Heisey had 13 service points and seven aces and Erica Helfrick had 22 assists for the Rockets (18-2, 10-1).

No. 5 North 3, Clear Spring 0

Ariel Kifer had 11 kills and four aces as North Hagerstown swept Clear Spring 25-13, 25-15, 25-7 in the MVAL Antietam.

Katie Plume had 29 digs and Brooke Ward had 23 digs for the Hubs (12-1, 4-0). Plume and Ward also had five aces in the win. JV: North, 2-0

Gettysburg 3 No. 6 Waynesboro 1

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Waynesboro (9-6) lost in four games, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-16.

No. 7 Boonsboro 3 Brunswick 0

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Jessie Ambrose had 19 points, 12 assists and seven aces to lead Boonsboro to a 25-7, 25-1, 25-3 sweep of Brunswick in the MVAL Antietam.

Lia VanCleave and Samantha Frew each added five aces for the Warriors (12-1, 4-1), while Caitlyn Selby had seven kills. JV: Boonsboro, 2-0.

No. 8 Greencastle 3 Scotland 0

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Jessica Ritchey had 13 assists and eight kills for Greencastle as the Blue Devils defeated Scotland, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22.

Melanie Fries added 19 digs for the Blue Devils (15-3). JV: Greencastle, 2-1.

Middletown 3, Century 2

SYKESVILLE, Md. - Erin Burtner had 13 kills and 10 digs to lead Middletown past Century 22-25, 26-24, 25-19, 17-25, 15-10 in MVAL Piedmont action.

Erin King had nine kills, Amanda Lewis had eight and Sarah Watkins added six for Middletown (6-6, 4-1). King and Watkins each had six blocks, while Lewis had five aces.
