Edward "Ed" H. Lough

Chairman, Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce

Job: Partner with Alan Levin in Northwestern Mutual Financial Network's Hagerstown office at 20 W. Washington St., Suite 301, next to the Chamber's office. The firm sells life and health insurance, annuities and mutual funds.

Previous work experience: Was a junior and high school band director for Mount Savage School near his hometown of Cumberland, Md., for four years before deciding to get in the insurance business for the income potential and greater control over his time and job.

Lough worked for Peoples Life, which was bought by Monumental Life, before opening a Northwestern office in October 1991.

Age: 54

Family: Lives in Williamsport with his wife, Julie; his stepdaughters Christine Barnes, 13, and Renee Barnes, 10; and their son, Eddie Lough II, who turns 2 in December.


Hobbies: Power weightlifting, softball, snow skiing, and collecting coins and baseball cards.

Lough's office is decorated with weightlifting and softball trophies as well as business awards, New York Yankees memorabilia and a Willie Mays autographed baseball.

Community service: Serves on the boards for the Greater Hagerstown Committee, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Has been involved with the Western Maryland Blues Fest since its inception in 1996. Is a member of Long Meadows Rotary.
