Elizabeth Sprecher Arnett, 84, remembers when the land along Sharpsburg Pike from Interstate 70 to Rench Road was "all farmland." Her parents, Grover and Mabel Sprecher, owned a 130-acre farm that occupied what today is a series of fast-food restaurants and numerous other businesses. "We didn't have electricity until I was 4 years old. The only indoor plumbing we had was a kitchen pump and sink. Actually, we didn't have indoor plumbing until 1938."
