Williamsport man in critical condition following accident

October 13, 2004

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - A Williamsport man was flown by Life Lion to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center on Monday evening after a three-vehicle accident on Welsh Run Road in Montgomery Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Tracy Abbott, 33, address unavailable, was in serious condition Tuesday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said Abbott was driving a 1987 Mazda coupe west near the Garnes Road intersection when an eastbound Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Robert Sword, 74, of 11892 Welsh Run Road, attempted to make a left turn into a driveway. Abbott's car and the pickup collided, and the pickup spun around and was hit by an eastbound 1999 Isuzu sport utility vehicle driven by Matthew Thomas Jones, 24, of Mercersburg.

Abbott had to be freed from the wreckage by rescue personnel, police said.

Sword was taken to Chambersburg Hospital, where he was listed in good condition Tuesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
