Oct. 20: Women in Dairy conference, Clarion Hotel, Carlisle, Pa., 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Oct. 21: Pasture Walk at the Western Maryland Reserach and Education Center, 18330 Keedysville Road, 10 a.m. An entire series of new grass variety plots have been established at WMREC this year. These include 42 perennial grasses in a spring seeding, eight Italian ryegrasses in both spring and late summer seedings, and 10 annual ryegrasses seeded in late summer.

Oct. 25: Washington County Farm Bureau meeting, Extension office, 7:30 p.m.

Nov. 1: Bits-n-Bridles 4-H Club, Washington County Extension office, 7 p.m.

Nov. 4: Pasture Walk at Peace Hollow Farm (Myron Martin), 2148 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. This pasture walk will revisit this farm's corn silage-annual ryegrass double crop system and the perennial grass stands on the remainder of the farm.

To reach the Washington County Extension office, drive about 7 miles south of Hagerstown from the Interstate 70 exit onto Sharpsburg Pike (Md. 65). The office is in the Washington County Agricultural Education complex.

The Franklin County, Pa., Extension office is at 191 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, Pa. From Hagerstown, take Interstate 81 north to the U.S. 30 East exit. Take the first road to the left, which is Franklin Farm Lane. The Extension office is in the first set of brick government buildings on the left.
