October 09, 2004

The Hagerstown Police Department's Street Crimes Unit charged two people and called Child Protective Services after executing a search warrant at a room at the Venice Inn on Thursday night, according to a police news release.

Sherry Lynn Davis, 22, of 118 N. Mulberry St., Apt. C, and Derrick Avon Wilson, 38, of no fixed address, each were charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Three children, ages 2 to 14, were in Room 286 of the Dual Highway hotel with the adults when police went in shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday and found marijuana, crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, $846 in cash and a .22-caliber handgun concealed in a child's book bag, according to the statement.

Police said .22-caliber ammunition and digital scales also were in the book bag.

Officers tried to use a key card provided by the hotel to enter the room, but it failed. After offices hit the door three times with a battering ram, a man inside opened it, police said.
