Hagerstown Police are asking for help in finding a man who allegedly pistol-whipped a woman at a party Thursday night on North Locust Street.

When the woman was hit in the forehead with the gun, it accidentally discharged, Detective Steve Hoover said this morning. The incident was reported just after 11 p.m. Thursday. No one was shot, he said.

A 28-year-old Hagerstown woman was treated and released from Washington County Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Initial reports indicated the woman was shot in the head, but did not sustain life-threatening injuries, police said Thursday night.

Hoover would not release any information about motive, but it was not a domestic violence incident, he said.

The suspect's first name is Vance, Hoover said. He is a black man, approximately 20 years old with a short, tapered haircut. He is estimated to be about 5-foot-9 and weighs 130 pounds.

Anyone with information can call Hagerstown City Police at 301-790-3700.

The woman was hit in the forehead with a gun, which discharged a bullet into a coffee table and floor in Apt. 2 at 321 N. Locust St., Hoover said.

After the woman was hit, she went out a second-floor window onto a porch roof and jumped about 12 feet to the ground, Hoover said.

There were at least 10 people in the apartment, Hoover said. Police brought four or five people in for questioning as witnesses and all were released, Hoover said.

While officers interviewed area witnesses, police cruisers patrolled nearby alleys. Witnesses said the woman ran from 321 N. Locust St. shortly after they heard a shot fired. Witnesses said she ran into a nearby alley.
