PREP GOLF

FREDERICK, Md. - Walkersville continued its team success of 2004 by winning the Frederick County championship on Wednesday at Clustered Spires Golf Course.

The Lions, who were the team champion in the Class 1A/2A District, posted an outstanding 297, 15 shots better than last year when they won the title. Urbana was second with 312.

Josh Williford and Greg Nelson led the way with an even-par 72 while Bryan Abbamonte posted a 76 and Gordon Ackland had a 77.

"I told them they were capable of shooting much better than they have been lately," Walkersville coach George Baltic said.

While the Lions were rolling, so was Middletown's Tyler Ausherman, who deadlocked Urbana's Myles Vlachos for medalist honors at 3-under par 69. In a playoff, the pair each birdied the first hole before Vlachos won on the second playoff hole.
