Clinic moves to Mill Street

October 05, 2004

The Community Free Clinic on Monday began operating at its new location at 249 Mill St.

The clinic's former location on West Franklin Street was put on the market for sale earlier this year, according to a press release from clinic officials. A donor made it possible to buy the property on Mill Street with the stipulation that the clinic raise money to repay the debt, according to the press release.

The new location has more than 5,000 square feet of space, providing additional room for patient education areas, as well as more treatment areas and office space for staff and volunteers, according to the release.

The clinic handles more than 10,000 patient visits per year and dispenses more than $1,038,744 worth of medication annually. The Community Free Clinic saves Washington County an estimated $2,456,403 by treating uninsured patients at no cost, according to the release. Ninety-three percent of patients who are seen at the clinic receive prescription medication at no charge.

An open house has been scheduled for Oct. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. A capital campaign will kick off Dec. 1 to help the clinic repay its portion of the debt to the donor.
