The Hagerstown Fire Department will participate in National Fire Prevention Week, which began Sunday and continues through Saturday. The department is offering to install free smoke alarms and provide information to area residents about fire safety.
The department released the following tips for fire prevention:
· Install smoke detectors/alarms on all levels of a home.
· Replace batteries annually, at least.
· Upgrade electric fire alarms so they include a battery backup.
· Replace all detectors that are more than 10 years old.
More information about free detectors/alarms and fire safety can be obtained through Mike Weller, the department's public educator, at 301-790-2476.
