Vehicle break-ins hit Maugansville


A string of thefts from motor vehicles parked in a residential area near Maugansville were reported to the Washington County Sheriff's Department Thursday, according to Sgt. Mark Knight:

-- At 7:30 a.m., a Chevrolet Suburban was reported broken into and loose change was reported stolen in the 13600 block of Dixie Drive.

-- At 7:30 a.m., a 1996 Chevrolet truck and a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer were reported broken into. An ashtray, several CDs, a six-speed bicycle and a Palm Pilot were reported stolen from the two cars, which were parked in the 18500 block of Indian Cottage Road.

-- At 10 a.m., a vehicle was entered and CDs were reported stolen in the 13800 block of Weber Way.

-- At 10:30 a.m., a 1999 Chevrolet pickup was reported entered and ransacked in the 13800 block of Weber Way.

-- At 11 a.m., a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am and a 1989 Nissan pickup truck were reported rummaged through in the 13500 block of Sovereign Terrace.

-- At 12 p.m., a 2002 Dodge Dakota was reported rummaged through while it was parked in the 13500 block of Pulaski Drive.

Police ask anyone with information about the incidents to call them at 240-313-2100.

Sheriff's deputies respond to calls


The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to the following calls on Thursday, according to Sgt. Mark Knight:

-- At 7:30 p.m., a Chevrolet was reported broken into while parked near Garfield's at Valley Mall and clothing, boots, a sweatshirt and a jacket were reported stolen.

-- At 8:30 a.m., the back window to a Jeep Wrangler parked in the 17700 block of Red Oak Drive was reported unzipped and loose change was reported stolen from the ashtray,

-- At noon, a 2000 Mercury Cougar was reported keyed while it was parked at Boonsboro High School.

-- At 11:45 a.m., a turn signal cover, valued at $200, was reported stolen from a 1988 Ford Thunderbird while it was parked at the Elks Lodge, at 11063 Robinwood Drive.

-- At 8 a.m., a 1989 Chevrolet Blazer was reported entered and numerous tools were reported stolen from the first block of Oak Tree Lane in Williamsport.

-- At 6:30 a.m., a 2002 Honda Accord was entered and items were reported stolen in the 12000 block of Bayer Drive in Smithsburg,

City police crime report


The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following calls since Wednesday, according to Sgt. Curt Wood:

On Thursday:

-- At 11:57 a.m., Maryland registration plate, MVE675, was reported stolen from the rear of the 500 block of South Burhans Boulevard.

-- At 10:56 p.m., the front windshield of a motor vehicle parked in the 200 block of East Franklin Street was reported cracked.

-- At 10:35 a.m., a duffel bag containing clothing was reported found in the 600 block of Potomac Avenue.

-- At 9:25 a.m., items were reported stolen from a motor vehicle parked in the 400 block of East Franklin Street.

-- At 12:25 a.m., a shoplifter was reported at Wal-Mart and assorted items, valued at $49.21, were reported stolen.

On Wednesday:

-- At 7:27 p.m., a pocketbook that contained a cell phone, wallet and keys, valued at $233, was reported stolen from the 600 block of Washington Ave.

-- At 7:27 p.m., a pocketbook that contained a wallet, cash and keys, valued at $138, was reported stolen from the 600 block of Washington Avenue.

-- At 8:34 a.m., yard items, valued at $50.99, were reported stolen from the 1000 block of Rosehill Avenue.

Eight charged in fight at area school


THURMONT, Md. - Eight people, including six juveniles, were charged Wednesday in connection with a brawl at Catoctin High School, the Frederick County Sheriff's Department said.

Luc F. Jean, 22, of Emmitsburg, Md., and Josue Jean, 18, also of Emmitsburg, were charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing school operations, according to deputies. Luc Jean also was charged with threatening a student, deputies said.

The names of six juveniles charged were not released.

All of them were charged with one count of disturbing school operations.

An Emmitsburg resident, 17, also was charged with three counts of second-degree assault, deputies said.

Another Emmitsburg resident, also 17; a Lewistown, Md., resident, 16; and a Thurmont resident, 15; were each charged with two counts of second-degree assault,

Two other Thurmont residents, ages 15 and 16, were charged with one count each of second-degree assault.

Deputies said Monday's fight in the front lobby of the school was reported at about 7:49 a.m. The students involved were taken to the front office, where a second fight broke out later, deputies said.

The second fight began after two adult family members of two students involved in the initial brawl entered the office, deputies alleged. Deputies said the adults refused to stop and sign in at the front desk.

Hagerstown Police respond to calls


The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following calls since Wednesday, according to Sgt. Curt Wood:

-- At 11:19 p.m., domestic violence was reported in the first block of East Washington Street.
