McKenrick lifts No. 1 Warriors in OT

BOYS SOCCER



BOONSBORO - Tyler McKenrick scored the game-winning goal in overtime on an assist from Dave Stout to lead No. 1 Boonsboro to a 4-3 win over Tuscarora on Thursday.

Corey Robinson, Eric Fries and Nick Stenersen each added a goal for the Warriors (8-0).

Kirk Meehan, Daniel Shannon and Tyler Cargl each scored for the Titans in the loss.

JV: Boonsboro, 2-0.

No. 2 Greencastle 10 Milton Hershey 1


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Jared Barkdoll scored three goals for Greencastle as the Blue Devils rolled past Milton Hershey.

Treavor Gelsinger added two goals and three assists for the Blue Devils (9-1) while Cory DeMasters, Adam Wiestling, Darren Negley and Mac Frederick each scored a goal and Dustin Young had three assists.

Williamsport 1, Smithsburg 0


SMITHSBURG - Dan Gossard scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Phillip Jordan with 13 minutes left and Williamsport kept Smithsburg winless in an MVAL Antietam matchup.

Jake Stabler had five saves for Smithsburg (0-8, 0-2), which outshot the Wildcats, 10-7.

David Hines had five saves for Williamsport.

North 0, Brunswick 0


BRUNSWICK, Md. - Brian Johnson made 18 saves for Brunswick and Josh Borland had seven for North Hagerstown (3-3-2), including two in the final 90 seconds.

Broadfording 2, Heritage 1


Alan Myers Jr. had a goal and an assist to lead Broadfording Christian to an MDCC win over Heritage Academy.

Kevin Haldeman also scored, Jon McConnell had an assist and Brian Snyder had eight saves for the Lions (5-4-2, 2-3-2).

Shippensburg 2 Waynesboro 1


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Brian Gerlach scored two goals - including the game-winner with 20 minutes left - and Shippensburg edged Waynesboro a Mid-Penn Colonial contest.

Nik Gibin scored on an assist from Tyler Barrett for the Indians (2-7, 2-5). Chris Taber had 10 saves.




GIRLS SOCCER



No. 4 North 5, Brunswick 1


Kelsey Brasher scored two goals and assisted on another as North Hagerstown rolled past Brunswick in MVAL Antietam action.

Cara Thompson, Hillary Grove and Lauren O'Boyle each added a goal and Heather McLeaf made three saves for the Hubs (7-2, 2-0). O'Boyle, Becky Barnhart and Courten Whorten had assists in the win.

Tara Custer scored the lone goal for Brunswick (0-6, 0-2).

South 1, Clear Spring 0


Mar'ke Cosley scored the game-winning goal in overtime as South Hagerstown slipped past Clear Spring in the MVAL Antietam Conference.

Brittany Shadrach recorded the shutout for the Rebels (2-5-0). Jackie Hornbaker had six saves for the Blazers.

No. 3 Williamsport 3 Frederick 1


FREDERICK, Md. - Lea Drury had 20 service points and 16 assists to lead Williamsport past Frederick 25-12, 25-14, 20-25, 25-15 in MVAL nondivision action.

Beth Ryan had 15 service points and 11 assists, while Sammi Snodderly and Lacie Johnson each had 12 kills for the Wildcats (6-1).

FREDERICK, Md. - Jerica Hewett had 15 service points and six kills as Boonsboro swept Tuscarora 25-9, 25-12, 25-13 to remain undefeated.

Caitlyn Selby had eight kills and Kim Snavely had 10 digs for the Warriors (7-0).

FREDERICK, Md. - Ariel Kifer had 54 digs and 12 kills to lead North to a 23-25, 25-12, 22-25, 25-16, 15-10 win over Thomas Johnson.

Also for the Hubs (8-1), Tracy Hinkle had 44 assists and four aces, Katie Plume had 45 digs and eight kills and Kaitlin Zimmer had 10 kills and five blocks.

Michelle Bateman had 14 assists and seven service points for the Patriots (4-3) while Bethany Springer had 17 digs, 10 kills and four blocks.

No. 10 South 3 Clear Spring 1


Chelsea Weaver had 14 points and Angie Chang added 10 as South Hagerstown beat Clear Spring, 25-16, 25-19, 18-25, 25-14.

Brittany Hyatt had 26 assists and Jamie Fowler had eight kills for the Rebels (7-1).

Christine Burgesser and Amber Hendershot each had eight service points and Ashley Crist had nine assists for the Blazers (2-5).

McConnellsburg 3 Southern Fulton 0


McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Emile Ott had 21 service points and 15 assists as McConnellsburg remained undefeated in Sideling Hill League play with a 25-21, 25-4, 25-18 sweep of Southern Fulton.

Trisha Seiders had nine kills and five blocks for the Spartans (7-2, 5-0).

Tina Conner had nine service points, 11 kills and 10 digs as Broadfording Christian swept Heritage Academy 25-20, 25-15, 25-19 in Mason Dixon Conference action.

Hannah Bywaters had 15 service points and Cindel Young added 11 kills for the Lions (9-3). Becca Conner had 18 assists.

Whitney Schlimgen had seven kills and Heather Stamper had six to go with four blocks for Heritage (6-5, 5-5).

Waynesboro 3 Shippensburg 1


SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Paige Tanner had 13 kills, eight digs and three blocks for Waynesboro as the Maidens defeated Shippensburg, 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21.

Karey Toms added 41 assists for the Maidens (5-4) while Jackie Duffey had 10 digs, five aces and six kills and Jana Akers had 10 service points.




GOLF



Schultz opens with 71


VERONA, N.Y. - Black Rock golf professional Dirk Schultz posted an opening-round 1-under-par 71 at the Eastern PGA Club Professional Championship on the Atunyote Golf Club course at Turning Point Resort.

His 35-36 card left him in a tie for 16th place, five shots off the leader. The top 32 scores will qualify for the PGA Club final.

South Hagerstown 16, Boonsboro 10: Marcellus Sumlin ran for a touchdown and returned an interception for another score, while Brock Jamison kicked a 32-yard field goal for South.
