First Data foundation donates $65,000 to build Habitat house

September 29, 2004

First Data Western Union Foundation has presented a $65,000 grant to Washington County Habitat for Humanity.

The grant, made Sept. 21, will pay for one home for Habitat - the first time a company or organization in the Hagers-town area has sponsored the construction of an entire house.

The foundation, the charitable organization of First Data Corp., supports philanthopic initiatives worldwide.

First Data representatives Chris Clifford, vice president and site manager, and Diane Baker, community coordinator, presented the check during the Habitat for Humanity board meeting.

Groundbreaking for the First Data house is expected in the spring.

In Hagerstown, the foundation has provided grants recently to organizations such as REACH, Parent-Child Center, Community Free Clinic, Mason-Dixon Council of Boy Scouts of America, YMCA's Black Achievers Program and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
