The Rev. Kauffman completed his trade and apprenticeship at Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro. He retired in 2001 as quality assurance inspector after 41 years.

The Rev. Kauffman also served as pastor for the Mooresville Church of God in Big Pool, Md., for 25 years and at the Samples Manor Church of God in Sharpsburg, Md., for 23 years.

He was a member of the Waynesboro Fish and Game Association and the South Mountain Fish and Game Association.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working with wood, restoring an old tractor, being with his family, and helping neighbors.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lucinda K. Kauffman of Newport News, Va., and Rachel L. Moats of Chambersburg, Pa.; one grandson, Kent A. Thompson of Newport News, Va.; five sisters, Phyllis Slike and Jane Thomas, both of Fayetteville, Pa., Sally Mumma and Nancy Valentine, both of Waynesboro, Pa., and Susie Mealor of Gainsville, Ga.; three brothers, Blaine Kauffman of Houston, Texas, John Kauffman and James Kauffman, both of Fayetteville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jackie C. Kauffman II, on Dec. 6, 1993.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain, Pa., with the Rev. Donald L. Bender officiating.

At his request, there will be no public viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

WILLIAMSPORT - Pauline Geneva Hoover, 91, of Vermont Street, Williamsport, Md., died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Clearview Nursing Home, Hagerstown, Md.

She was born Jan. 23, 1913, in Williamsport, Md., to the late Martin L. and Bessie Wolford Ausherman.

She was a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her son, William Luther "Bill" Hoover, on April 19, 1987.

Pauline was a 1931 graduate of Williamsport High School.

Pauline attended Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport, Md.

She is survived by one son, Larry W. Hoover and his wife, Mercedes of Williamsport, Md.; two grandsons, Ricardo Hoover and Ronald L. Hoover, both of Williamsport, Md.

She was predeceased by four sisters, Juanita Michael, Freda M. Barnhart, Mildred Hessong and Bessie Marlowe.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 12 (noon) on Tuesday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, with the Rev. James E. Swecker officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport, Md.

MARCH 24, 1924-SEPT. 26, 2004

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jack W. Rife Sr., 80, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born March 24, 1924, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Charles Leonard and Ruth May Kearns Rife.

He was a 1945 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

He retired from E.I DuPont after 30 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Winchester Avenue Christian Church.

He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW; Berkeley Post 14 American Legion and Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Imogene Ramsburg Rife; two sons, Jack W. Rife Jr. and Michael Rife; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; two nephews; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles W. Rife.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Reese Davis will officiate. Military graveside services will be held at Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Josephine Tenney, 83


SEPT. 17, 1921-SEPT. 27, 2004

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Josephine Tenney, 83, of Hedgesville, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at her daughter's home.

Born Sept. 17, 1921, in Upshur County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Annetta Burr Linger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ford Tenney.

She is survived by three daughters, Norris Jordan and Iris Zigler, both of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Doris Burtt of Hedgesville; one son, R. Gale Tenney of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Virginia K. Tenney, three sisters and three brothers.
