Where to get a flu shot

Washington County Health Officer William Christoffel said county health department clinics will begin later than expected because vaccine won't arrive until mid-October. Clinic dates will be announced then. The cost this year stays the same - $10.

In Franklin County, Pa., the Office on Aging has scheduled five clinics.

· 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25 - Tuscarora Senior Center, 11300 Fort Loudon Road, Mercersburg, Pa. Free.

· 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 - Waynesboro Senior Center, 912 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro, Pa. Free.

· 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 - Bard Hall, Eugene C. Clarke Recreation Center, 235 S. Third St., Chambersburg, Pa. Free.

· 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 - Fort Loudon Senior Center, 142 Mullen St., Fort Loudon, Pa. Free.

· 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15 - Path Valley Senior Center, 20344 School Road, Dry Run, Pa. Free.

· 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1 - Warfordsburg Senior Center, 209 Long Hollow Road, Warfordsburg, Pa.

West Virginia


· Berkeley County Health Department, 800 Emmett Rousch Drive, Martinsburg, W.Va., will offer flu shots beginning Monday, Oct. 4. $15 donation. Free with Medicare A and B cards.

Immunization clinics are 1 to 3:30 p.m. Mondays (not holidays).

· Jefferson County Health Department, 1948 Wiltshire Road, Kearneysville, W.Va., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Shots cost $15 and are free for ages 65 and older.

· In Morgan County, W.Va.: "Distribution of the flu vaccine to the public is subject to the distribution of the vaccine by the West Virginia Immunization Program, which is anticipated to be sometime in the middle of October 2004," said Morgan County Health Department Administrator Bill Kearns.

Also, the American Lung Association has launched an online flu shot locator to help people find a local clinic for a flu shot.

By typing a ZIP code at www.findaflushot.com/lungusa on the Web, people can find out where they can go to get a flu shot within 50 miles. The database includes more than 20,000 locations across the United States, according to to information from the American Lung Association.
