Williamsport fire co. gets federal grant

September 23, 2004

The Williamsport Volunteer Fire Co. received a $135,990 federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security's Office for Domestic Preparedness, Rep. Roscoe Bartlett said in a written statement on Wednesday.

The fire company plans to use the money to upgrade suppression nozzles, replace self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with safer apparatus and to buy a new station ventilation system, according to the statement.

"We do one fund-raiser per week to raise necessary funds, and this grant is equivalent to three to five years of such fund-raising," Fire Chief William Ball III said in the statement. "We are very grateful and are excited to have received this grant."
