Potpie supper to benefit Ruritan Club


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Kauffman Ruritan Club will sponsor a potpie supper on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kauffman Community Center at 7289 Ruritan Drive, Chambersburg.

The menu will feature both beef and ham potpie, pepper slaw, applesauce and dessert. Adults, $6; children 6-12, $3; younger than 6, free.

Intersection to be closed for two weeks


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The intersection of Hollywell Avenue and Industrial Drive will be closed for approximately two weeks for road work, according to a borough announcement.

The closure, which began Tuesday, is to reduce the curve on Hollywell Avenue south of the intersection, the announcement stated.




Dinner dance, silent auction set


A dinner dance, silent auction and raffle will raise money for the scholarship fund of Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, Dan Di Mucci Lodge 2465, in Hagerstown and Martinsburg, W.Va.

The 23rd Annual Columbus Day Dinner Dance will be Saturday, Oct. 9, at Four Points Sheraton in Hagerstown. The event begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The guest speaker, world-renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Paul J. Corso, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Three hours of dancing will begin at 8:30 p.m. with music by the Monaldi Brothers Band. Tickets cost $25 per person.

Dr. Corso is the chief cardiac surgeon and cardiac surgery director at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. He is the son of Lodge members Mr. and Mrs. Paul Corso.

Two $400 college scholarship awards will be presented to James Anthony Mussolino of Hagerstown and Robert Wilkes of Germantown, Md.

Silent auction items include prints by local sports photographer Carl Kidwiler and the room of your choice to be painted by Masterpiece Painting and Home Improvement.

Raffle tickets may be purchased for the chance to win prizes of $50, $100 and $200.
