Plenty of family fun at the Great Frederick Fair

FREDERICK, Md. - The Great Frederick Fair kicks off Friday, Sept. 17, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 26, with a 4-H horse and pony show at 9 a.m., at the fairgrounds at 797 E. Patrick St. The fair will feature country music concerts from Jo Dee Messina, Sawyer Brown, Neal McCoy, Trick Pony and Brad Paisley. Highlights include:

· Friday, Sept. 17

9 a.m. - Judging, Household Department, building No. 9, all exhibits except baked goods.

5 p.m. - Carnival midway opens; pay one price 5 p.m. to closing.

· Saturday, Sept. 18

9 a.m. - Open class dairy goat show, building No. 32.

10 a.m. - Carnival midway opens, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., pay one price, regular ticket prices after 5 p.m.

2 p.m. - Decorated wagon parade, city streets, country roads.

3 p.m. - All buildings open to the public.

7:30 p.m. - Jo Dee Messina concert, grandstand, ticket charge.

· Sunday, Sept. 19

9 a.m. - Buildings open to the public; draft horse and mule show, infield; open class dairy cattle show, building No. 32.

Noon- Midway opens.

Noon - Open class sheep carcass contest, building No. 28.

2 p.m. - Open class dairy cattle show, building No. 32; judging of Spuddy Buddy entries, building No. 14A.

3:30 p.m. - Potato sack races, city streets, country roads.

7 p.m. - Trick Pony concert, grandstand, ticket charge.

9 a.m. - Buildings open to public.
