Women charged with robbing cab driver


Two women were charged last week with robbing a Hagerstown cab driver at gunpoint on Aug. 26, according to the Hagerstown Police Department.

Elizabeth Marie Heffner, 26, of 2 Bowie Mill Court in Taneytown, Md., was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft less than $500. She was being held on $18,500 bond at the Washington County Detention Center Wednesday night, a jail spokesman said.

Shannon Marie Hamilton, 26, of 510 E. Washington St., Apt. 7, in Hagerstown, was charged with armed robbery, robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft less than $500. She was being held Wednesday night on $600,000 bond at the Washington County Detention Center, a jail spokesman said.

At 5:05 p.m. on Aug. 26, a Four State Transportation driver called police after returning to the cab company to report he was robbed of $95 by two women he picked up from Sheetz on Maugans Avenue, Hagerstown Police Department Sgt. Curt Wood said in a news release.

One of the women sat in the front seat and the other woman sat in the back seat while the driver took them to 510 E. Washington St., their requested destination, Wood said.

As the driver pulled into a parking lot to the rear of the requested address, one of the women pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the driver, Wood said. The woman told the driver she would take his money as she ripped the "CB mike" out of the radio and took his keys and his cell phone, police said.




Tractor-trailer overturns on I-68


A tractor-trailer overturned Wednesday at 7:33 a.m. on westbound Interstate 68, west of Hancock near Sandy Mile Road, but caused little delays in traffic, Maryland State Police Cpl. T.J. McKenrick said.

A Washington County Emergency Services dispatcher said no one requested medical treatment as a result of the accident.
