Funkstown sets dates for Halloween activities

September 15, 2004

FUNKSTOWN - The Funkstown Halloween Parade will be Oct. 28 and trick-or-treating for Funkstown youngsters only will be Oct. 29, the Funkstown Mayor and Town Council agreed Monday.

Funkstown Town Clerk Brenda Haynes said that the lineup for the parade will begin at 5 p.m. and that the parade will start at 6 p.m. She said that invitations have been sent to South Hagerstown schools' bands and that invitations to Funkstown School for Early Childhood Education and Emma K. Doub School for the Arts and Integrated Technology have been sent.

She said that last year, invitations were not sent to both elementary schools out of fear that it would be too crowded at the American Legion for the children's party. She said that last year's Halloween party was not well attended.

"I look at Doub as a Funkstown school anyway," Assistant Mayor Paul N. Crampton Jr. said. The two schools were split last school year to accommodate grades pre-kindergarten through first at Funkstown and the remaining elementary grades at Emma K. Doub as part of a new magnet school program.
