Softball tryouts


The PA Xplosion girls 18U softball team is having tryouts for their Fall and Summer 2005 tournament team. Tryouts are held weekly. Girls ages 14-18 are eligible. Contact Dave Funk at 717-352-3403 for tryout times and locations.

Slo-pitch tournaments


The SSAA Class D and E Pennsylvania co-ed state championships will be played Sept. 18-19 (rain date: Sept. 25-26) in Roxbury, Pa. Tournament is double elimination and participating teams will receive a berth to the world tournament Oct. 2-3 in Fairfax, Va. Teams are guaranteed three games. There will be an SSAA men's Class D and E all-night tournament Sept. 18-19 in Mercersburg, Pa. Teams are guaranteed three games. Class D teams are allowed one pick-up player; Class E teams are allowed three. Entry fee is $190 and you must hit your own .47 core balls. Only the first 16 teams entered will play. Running


The City of Hagerstown Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the Parks and Rec Trek - a 5K run and 2-mile walk - on Oct. 10 at 9 a.m. The run and walk both begin at Fairgrounds Park and finish at Municipal Stadium. The preregistration fee, which includes a long-sleeved T-shirt, is $18 by Oct. 1. The fee is $20 on the day of the event. Cash prizes and other awards will be given to the top finishers in the 5K.
