Police ask for help in finding person who stole portable radios

September 12, 2004

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -The Martinsburg Police Department has asked for the public's help in tracking down whomever stole two portable hand-held radios from the Martinsburg Fire Department last week.

Police said the person or people involved entered the fire department at 200 N. Raleigh St. and stole the Motorola HT 1000 radios and charger valued at $2,000.

Police received the report on Wednesday, but believe the thefts might have happened between Sept. 5 and 7.

Several illegal transmissions have been made on the Martinsburg Police Department's frequencies in the last several days with the stolen equipment, police said.

Anyone with information about the thefts or who can identify the voices in the illegal transmissions may call the police department's Detective Unit at 304-264-2100 or Berkeley County Crime Solvers at 304-267-4999.
