FAIRFIELD, Pa. - Josh Cotton ran for two touchdowns and passed for another as James Buchanan ended its 10-game losing streak with a 30-7 win over Fairfield (0-2) on Saturday.

JB (1-1) trailed 7-6 in the second quarter before scoring 24 unanswered points.

Tyler Morris led the Rockets' 324-yard ground attack, rushing for 133 yards on 17 carries, including a 1-yard TD run.

Cotton, who scored on runs of 1 and 7 yards, was 4 of 8 passing for 83 yards.

Western Reserve 19 Mercersburg Academy 7

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Western Reserve scored 12 points in the third quarter to break a 7-7 halftime tie against Mercersburg Academy in the season opener for each team.

Dietrich Wright rushed for 88 yards on 11 carries for the Blue Storm, while Jamar Galbreath led the defense with 10 tackles.



Spinnler wins 5-miler

ROMNEY, W.Va. - Hagerstown's Maria Spinnler, 42, was the top overall female at the 25th annual Hampshire Heritage Days 5-Mile Race.

She covered the course in 31 minutes, 31 seconds and won $225. Maureen Hall, 39, of LaVale, Md., was second in 31:52.

Jason Bodnar, 33, of Winchester, Va., was the men's winner in 25:30. Jaron Hawkins, 21, of Frostburg, Md., was second in 25:52.


Salisbury leads Saints

BALTIMORE - St. James finished 13th out of 19 teams at the 56 annual Spiked Shoe Invitational at Johns Hopkins University's Wyman Park.

Rex Salisbury led the Saints, finishing 54th in 19:31.6.

Georgetown Prep's Steve Duplinsky won the race in 16:10.0. Loyola Blakefield won the team title.


Hawks compete

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. - The Hagerstown Community College girls team placed 10th out of 22 teams at the Lebanon Valley Invitational, while the HCC men were 15th out of 25.

Lindsay Zerance led the Hawks women, finishing 71st on the 5K course in 22:40. Nikki Centifonti was 77th (22:49) and Kara Wastler was 82nd (22:58).

For the HCC men, Kyle Eccard was 108th (31:17), Alex Shifler 117th (31:52) and John Edmunds 129th (32:33) on the 5-mile course.


North 3, Goretti 0

Katie Plume had 13 assists and four aces as North Hagerstown beat St. Maria Goretti, 25-10, 25-14, 25-8.

Ariel Kifer had eight kills and 20 digs, while Anna Shetler added four aces.

North 3, Clear Spring 0

Brooke Ward had eight kills and 21 digs to lead North Hagerstown to a 25-7, 25-9, 25-14 MVAL Antietam win over Clear Spring.

Brooke Powell had 11 aces and four kills for the Hubs (4-0) while Kaitlin Zimmer added 15 kills and three blocks.

Notre Dame 3, Hancock 0

Jenna Demory had 10 points, two kills and seven assists for Hancock as the Panthers lost 25-19, 25-12, 25-15 to Notre Dame. Katie Golden added 12 digs for the Panthers (0-3) while Amber Moats had five kills.


Grace 5, Faith 2

Jordan Hanft had four goals and an assist to lead Grace Academy to a win over Faith Christian.

David Hardcastle added a goal for Grace (4-1) while Zach Zoontz had two assists.

Mercersburg 3, Kiski 1

SALTSBURG, Pa. - Justin Mellot scored two goals to lead Mercersburg Academy past Kiski School.

Also for the Blue Storm (1-0), Matt Diller scored a goal while Stephon Fullerton, Eric Rahauser and John Marino each had an assist.

St. James 4, Flint Hill 3

ST. JAMES - Lekan Fajana scored three goals to lead St. James past Flint Hill in an MAC game.

Alex Yaraghi also scored for the Saints (2-0-1, 1-0-1), while Sam Ashelman, Cullen Garrity and Colin McWilliams each had an assist.


Mercersburg 3, Madeira 1

MCLEAN, Va. - Luciana Bolona, Brittany Lattisaw and Cara Leepson each scored a goal for the Blue Storm (1-0) as they began their season with a win over Madeira.
