Area roundup - Keyton's three goals lift Blazers past Rebels

CLEAR SPRING - Lindsey Keyton had a hat trick as Clear Spring defeated South Hagerstown 4-2 in MVAL Antietam Conference action Thursday night.

Megan Blickenstaff added a goal, while Carley Snyder and Sydney Shrader each had an assist for the Blazers.

Mar'ke Cosley scored twice for the Rebels. Brittany Shadrach had seven saves in the loss.

Middletown 2, North 1

Angie Harvey scored the deciding goal on a penalty kick early in the second half as Middletown edged North Hagerstown.

Kelsey Brasher scored on an assist from Hillary Grove to lead the Hubs (2-1), while Heather McCleaf had 13 saves.

Whitney Boyer also scored for Middletown (1-0).


Middletown 3, North 1

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Middletown broke a 1-1 deadlock just before halftime and went on to defeat North Hagerstown (1-2).

After Bob Buckheit gave Middletown a 1-0 lead, North's Logan Miller answered in the 39th minute of the first half with a header off a 35-yard pass from Clay Lucas. The Knights (2-2) took the lead 30 seconds later when Kenneth Vandre headed in a pass from Brad Dopring.


Bryan Bellow scored on another header for Middletown, assisted by Ben McMun, in the second half.

Boonsboro 5, Goretti 3

Jake Munson had two goals and Tyler McKenrick had a goal and two assists to lead Boonsboro past St. Maria Goretti.

Nick Stenersen and Keisuke Matsuno also scored and Evan Lowery had four saves for the Warriors (3-0).

Jake Hume, Michael Cushwa and Colin Lam each scored for the Gaels (3-3). Mick Neville had an assist and Kevin Brashears had 17 saves in the loss.

Winters Mill 6, Smithsburg 1

SMITHSBURG - Nick Leech scored two first-half goals and Winters Mill jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead en route to beating Smithsburg.

Chris Stinnette also scored two goals, while Paul Shult and Matt Gear had one each for the Falcons.

Chris Gyurisin scored unassisted for the Leopards (0-4).

Williamsport 7, Clear Spring 2

WILLIAMSPORT - Derek Hadley scored four goals and assisted on another as Williamsport rolled past Clear Spring in the MVAL Antietam.

Mark Oliver, Daniel Gossard and Steven Nunnally each scored for the Wildcats (3-0). Oliver and Phillip Jordan had three assists each.

David Kendle and David Ernst each scored for Clear Spring (1-3). Kris Reese had 22 saves in the loss.

Broadfording 1, New Life 1

Alan Myers scored for Broadfording Christian, and Brandon Gosnell scored for New Life Christian. Broadfording's Brian Snyder made 18 saves.

Walkersville 3, Urbana 1

IJAMSVILLE, Md. - Jason Love scored on an assist from Michael Smith to break a 1-1 tie 10 minutes into the second half to lift Walkersville past Urbana.

After Urbana's Dan Orrison scored the first goal of the game, Ben Seidel tied it on an assist from Tyler Redick. Smith later scored on an assist from Michael Foucoult for the Lions (2-2).

Greencastle 5 Milton Hershey 0

HERSHEY, Pa. - Treavor Gelsinger had two goals and two assists and Greencastle reamained undefeated with a shutout of Milton Hershey in the Mid-Penn Capital.

Jared Barkdoll added two goals and Dustin Young had a goal and an assist for the Blue Devils (4-0, 2-0), who outshot the Spartans, 39-5. Jaren Gembe had an assist in the win.

Shippensburg 2 Waynesboro 1

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - John Nickley and Jeremy Malanka scored unassisted and Shippensburg held off Waynesboro in the Indians' season opener.

Matt Sandifer cut the lead to 2-1, but the Indians (0-1) couldn't forge a tie. Zach Settlage had four second-half saves.

Broadfording 1, New Life 1

Broadfording Christian's Alan Myers scored on an assist from Zach Fraker to tie the game in the 69th minute. Brian Snyder had 18 saves for the Lions.

Brandon Gosnell scored and Austin Witmer had 40 saves for New Life Christian (2-2-2).


Martinsburg 3, Goretti 0

Martinsburg beat St. Maria Goretti in straight sets, 25-20, 25-12, 25-15, to keep the Gaels winless.

Megan Cashdollar had 10 assists and Jess Myers had four blocks for Goretti (0-3).

CVCS 3, Emmanuel Baptist 0

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Maggie Brookens had 14 service points and Molly Brookens had 12 assists as Cumberland Valley Christian swept Emmanuel Baptist, 25-17, 25-7, 25-19.

Shaina Liddick and Caroline Geider each had eight kills and Lauren Peterson had six aces for the Blazers (4-1).

Broadfording 3, New Life 0

Tina Conner had eight aces and five kills to lead Broadfording Christian past New Life Christian, 25-15, 25-15, 25-11, in Mason Dixon Christian Conference action.

Hannah Bywaters had five digs and Cindel Young had five kills for the Lions (4-1, 4-1).

Everett 3, Southern Fulton 0

EVERETT, Pa. - Candace Bard had nine service points and 15 digs, but Southern Fulton was swept by Everett, 25-17, 25-20, 32-30.

Jessie Wigfield added seven service points for the Indians (1-2).

South 3, Brunswick 0

Freshman Brittany Hyatt had 25 assists and 11 service points and Caitlin Nicewarner added 11 assists as South Hagerstown (2-0) swept Brunswick, 25-18, 25-15, 25-20.

JV: South, 2-0.

North 3, Linganore 0

North Hagerstown improved to 2-0, defeating Linganore, 25-9, 25-20, 25-11.

Kierra Nelson had seven assists and three blocks, Tracy Hinkle had six kills and 17 assists and Katie Plume had 13 assists and three aces for North.

JV: North, 2-1.

MSD 3, Middletown 1

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Maryland School for the Deaf downed Middletown in four games, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23.

Kyra Davis had 28 assists, Amanda Lewis had 11 kills and 11 digs and Erin Burtner had 15 digs and nine kills for Middletown (1-1).

Hedgesville 3, Hancock 1

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Hedgesville beat Hancock, 25-12, 25-12, 21-25, 25-8.

For the Panthers (0-2), Jenna Demory had 16 assists, Brittany Jenkins and Amber Moats each had eight kills and Katie Golden had eight digs.
