Civil War Living History event set for Sept. 18

The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park is hosting the second annual Civil War Living History event at Ferry Hill Plantation on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event features Union troop re-enactors who will encamp on the front lawn of the manor and demonstrate camp life, as well as present various interpretative programs.

The Second South Carolina String Band will present concerts on Saturday at noon and 5 p.m. and Sunday at noon.

Costumed interpreters will give tours and chronicle the history of Ferry Hill and will also talk about the role of civilians throughout the war

Demonstrations of period military drill, cooking, music, and medicine will occur throughout the day.

The event is free with plenty of on-site parking.

To reach Ferry Hill from Sharpsburg, travel 3.2 miles on Md. 34 toward Shepherdstown, W.Va. Ferry Hill Plantation is located on the right before crossing the bridge into Shepherdstown.
