Mail Call

September 10, 2004

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"To all my Republican friends who read Mail Call, the Republican headquarters will open on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 138 W. Washington St. Don't forget to vote for Bush, Bartlett and Pipkin."

"I can't believe the Democrats in this county that are calling Mail Call and complaining about us being in Iraq fighting terrorists. I recall the World Trade Center, the USS Cole under President Clinton and what happened on 9/11 was close enough to me. A lot of people think that planning of this attack occurred in a very short amount of time. Don't think so. I would rather fight the terrorists over there and not here. Think about it, because it could very well occur over here."

"I am calling about the Smithsburg EMS issue. I think this could be put to rest if Mr. Tracey would make a public apology to the family of the girl who passed away. I think we are all still very disgusted about this."

"There are a lot of planes flying low on the mountains in the southern part of the county. What is going on?"

"Would the lady who purchased the piece of furniture two weeks ago at a yard sale on Virginia Avenue, call us at 301-739-7925."

"Can someone tell me what the bright yellow arrows are on Pennsylvania Avenue then you come down on Maugans Avenue and they are there, too. What are they for?"

"Where can I get a 'Democrat for Bush' bumper sticker and/or a yard sign?"

"I would like to thank The Herald-Mail for covering the Junior League Football held on Labor Day."

"Kudos to Commissioner John Munson because he wants to fix the roads. I am a parent of an eighth-grade student and ever since he has been in school, they have been giving the school more and more money but they don't teach anything. The only one that gets the money is part time teachers."

"The 50th reunion of Hancock High School Class of 1954 will be held Sept. 18. If you haven't gotten an invitation and would like to attend, call 301-739-4008 and ask for Bob or call June at 301-223-9341 for more information."

"On Aug. 23, sometime around 10 a.m., I lost my gray Nokia cell phone somewhere between Bradbury Avenue in the Smithsburg area and possibly the Cavetown area. Please call 301-824-2126. My phone was out of service between Aug. 28 and Sept. 5, so if you found my phone and tried to call and didn't get through, that is the reason. So, if you found my phone, call again and leave a message. A reward is offered."
