Chuck E. Cheese's has picked a spot in Washington County.

County planner Misty Wagner-Grillo said Thursday the chain plans to open a restaurant at the corner of Cole Road and Massey Boulevard outside Valley Mall in Halfway.

A Chuck E. Cheese's spokeswoman said in April that the chain planned to open a restaurant in the Hagerstown area by the end of March 2005.

A site was not selected at that time, the spokeswoman said.

The Washington County Planning Commission will review the restaurant's site plan at Monday's 7 p.m. meeting.

The family restaurant chain has been opening 35 to 40 new restaurants a year for the past two years and that pace is continuing, spokeswoman Brenda Holloway said in April. She said it usually takes 90 days to build a restaurant.

The restaurant would be about 7,000 to 8,000 square feet and would employ 30 to 40 full- and part-time workers, according to a company news release.

Chuck E. Cheese's restaurants, geared toward families and children, offers games and rides for youngsters and an animated stage show featuring Chuck E. and his musical friends, according to the release.

It's known as a popular place for children's parties.
