EMS responds to 78 calls in August

SMITHSBURG - Personnel with Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services responded to 78 calls for service during the month of August, according to James Ullrich, captain of operations.

Of the August calls, 12 were to Frederick County, Md., and two to Franklin County, Pa. Eleven calls were in the Smithsburg town limits, while another six calls were in the Hagerstown area, nine in the Cascade area and another nine in the Leitersburg area.

Personnel also responded to a hang glider accident at High Rock and assisted on two house fires during the month.

Forty-five patients were taken to Washington County Hospital, while four patients went to Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital and one to Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Smithsburg EMS has responded to 622 calls so far this year.
