BIG POOL - Crystal Carolyn Mellott, 78, of Ernstville Road, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004.

Born Jan. 21, 1926, in Big Spring, Md., she was the daughter of the late Isaac Newton Bartles and Nora Sowers Bartles.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Big Pool, where she taught Sunday school. She was a member of Fort Frederick Ruritan Auxiliary. She was a 1944 graduate of Clear Spring High School and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Philbert Leroy Mellott of Big Pool; three sons, Donald Leroy Mellott and wife, Betsy J., of Big Pool, Ernest L. Mellott Sr. and wife, Peggy, of Clear Spring, and Wayne M. Mellott and wife, Ellen I., of Myersville, Md.; three sisters, Mildred Shives and Jesse Gum, both of Hagerstown, and Violet Patsy Mills of Clear Spring; and four grandchildren, Ernest L. Mellott Jr. and wife, Missy, of Big Pool, Jennifer L. Mellott of Big Pool, and Stephanie D. Mellott and Evan M. Mellott, both of Myersville.

Services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Big Pool. Pastor Scott D. Shumaker will officiate. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Paul Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Clear Spring, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after 11 a.m.

Walter B. Cool, 92


MAY 28, 1912-SEPT. 4, 2004

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Walter B. "Bub" Cool, 92, of 197 Twin Bridge Road, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 28, 1912, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Cool and Elizabeth Kreps Cool.

He retired from E.F. Goetz Construction Co. in Chambersburg in 1974.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a Catholic and a former member of Corpus Christi Church.

He was a member of St. Thomas (Pa.) American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Marie R. Kelley Cool; three sisters, Josephine Kegerreis and Geraldine Osterman, both of Chambersburg, and Dorothy Seilhamer of Waynesboro, Pa.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, five sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. James R. O'Brien will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Terry L. Betz, 44, of 1069 Lincoln Way West, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born May 30, 1960, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Priscilla Stoner Betz of Chambersburg and the late John S. Weaver.

He was a member of Sons of American Legion Squad 46, Sons of AMVETS Post 224, the Marine Corps League and Vietnam Veterans Post 41, all of Chambersburg.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Brandy R. Demeza of Fayetteville, Pa.; two sisters, Sherry Lynch of Harrisonville, Pa., and Dustina Gilbert of Fayetteville; three brothers, Kadle R. Betz and Donald L. Betz, both of New Jersey, and Johnboy Carbaugh of Mont Alto, Pa.; and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Floyd Mackey will officiate.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.




Rosie M. Ferguson, 84


JULY 1, 1920-SEPT. 5, 2004

KEEDYSVILLE - Rosie Mae Ferguson, 84, of 4827 Mount Briar Road, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at Clearview Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born July 1, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Elmer David Long and Edna Fletcher Long.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Mount Briar Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest "Ernie" M. Ferguson, whom she married July 4, 1947; four sisters, Bessie Little of Big Pool, and Violet Remsburg, Edna Bond and Esther Saunders, all of Hagerstown; two brothers, Archie Long of Hagerstown, and Ernest Long of Clear Spring; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Viola Ferguson, and one brother, Elmer Long Jr.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph C. Burdette Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
