FREDERICK, Md. - Tuscarora began its varsity football history with a 70-0 loss to perennial power Urbana.

The Titans fell behind late in the first quarter when Urbana returned two punts for touchdowns to begin the rout.

ST. JAMES - St. Maria Goretti and St. James played to a tie.

Allie Beck scored for St. James (0-1-1). Erica DiMercurio scored for Goretti.

FREDERICK, Md. - Michael Cushwa scored on a penalty kick in the 28th minute of overtime to lift St. Maria Goretti over Catoctin in the Tuscarora Titan Soccer Classic.

Mike Brashears had six saves for the Gaels (3-2).


HCC second in pool

COLUMBIA, Md. - Hagerstown Community College finished second in pool play at the Dragon Invitational at Howard Community College.


HCC defeated Cecil, 30-10, 30-12, and Monroe (N.Y.), 30-9, 30-12 before losing to Surrey (N.C.), 30-20, 26-30, 11-15.

The Hawks play at 10 this morning against Pitt (N.C.).

Megan Miller had 28 kills and eight aces, Keri Jackson had 27 kills and 28 digs and Staci Grabill had 64 assists to lead HCC.


McDonald second in ultra

AFTON, Va. - Matt McDonald, 34, of Hagerstown, finished second overall at the Great Eastern Endurance Run, a 100-kilometer (62-mile) ultramarathon trail run in George Washington National Forest.

McDonald completed the course in 10 hours, 31 minutes.

Eric Grossman, 36, of Louisville, Ky., last year's runner-up at the JFK 50-Miler, won the race in 9:50.
