Linda Boward has been named The Herald-Mail's Employee of the Month for September.

Boward, a cashier in the finance and administration department, has been with the company for 27 years.

Celebrating milestone anniversaries with the company in September are Tim Kitchen, pressroom, 35 years; Doug Hoffman, pressroom, and Colleen Lewis, pagination, 30 years; Dave Elliott, human resources, and Isabelle McCauley, packaging and distribution, 20 years; and Chad Trovinger, advertising, five years.

In other company news, Tim Shea, Canessa Simmers, Gerald Landers and Jessica Piper recently received promotions. Shea has been named Weekend/Business editor. A former copy editor, he has been with the company for four years. Simmers and Landers have both moved from part-time to full-time positions; Simmers as a sales associate in advertising and Landers as a member of the maintenance department. Piper has moved from a part-time customer service position in circulation to a part-time sales role in classified advertising.


Also in circulation, the company has hired Kathie Heavner as a Morning Herald zone manager, Erik Kline as a part-time shortage driver, and Erika Parker and Hannah Ritchick as part-time customer service representatives. The company also has hired Travis Miller as a temporary staff member in the information technology department.

Donald C. Bowers Insurance Inc.

Jeff Bowers of Donald C. Bowers Insurance Inc. recently attended the Values Based Selling Academy in San Diego.

The academy was moderated by Bill Bachrach, who is a professional development coach to many top financial advisers and recently was named one of the four most influential people in the financial services industry by Financial Planning magazine.

CoxHollida LLP

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Robin Santmier, an in-charge accountant with CoxHollida LLP, recently passed Intuit's QuickBooks certification coursework and become a certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.

Edward Jones

Robin Krugh recently joined the Edward Jones financial services firm as a branch office administrator.

Krugh will work with investment representative Shelby Penn-Ross. She previously was employed by M&T Bank.


Case management specialists Rae Sheeley and Mark Myers and office secretary Cathy Kline were named Employees of the Month for September at Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown.

They received the award for the tasks they performed that were instrumental in the institution receiving a 100 percent rating in the recent audit of the Inmate Grievance Office and the Administrative Remedy Programs.

John R. Marsh Cancer Center

Kendra Atherton and Lynn Leather, registered nurses at the John R. Marsh Cancer Center, recently were awarded certification in oncology by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation.

The certification, which is valid for four years, is part of the Nurse First continuing education course.

Certification is given to nurses who have demonstrated a specialized knowledge of oncology nursing. It is based on predetermined standards, the individual nurse's qualifications and knowledge of practice in a defined functional or clinical area of nursing.

The graduation ceremony was July 16 at the Four Points Sheraton in Hagerstown.

The graduates received 576 hours of training. The next training program, which has been increased to 624 hours, begins Wednesday.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Scott Palmer was named Agent of the Month for July at the Greencastle office of Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA.

Peggy Hays was recognized as the leader in service for July at the Greencastle office.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Roseann Ellis, an independent senior consultant with Mary Kay Inc., recently attended the company's annual seminar in Dallas.

The theme of the seminar, held July 15-31, was "Celebrating Women." The seminar included classes on team building, developing leadership skills, time management, proven sales tips and balancing career and family.

Ellis began her Mary Kay business in 2003.

FREDERICK, Md. - Two new employees recently joined the staff of Stulz Air Technology Systems.

- Michael Moran was hired as a mechanical design engineer. He is a 2004 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, with degrees in mechanical engineering and civil engineering.

- Pam Bailey was hired as a customer service representative. She has extensive customer service experience in the financial industry.

Fifer Financial Group LLC

FREDERICK, Md. - Jay S. Fifer of Fifer Financial Group LLC recently completed a course offered by the Society of Certified Senior Advisors on priority senior issues.

Course participants must pass a thorough examination to earn the Certified Senior Advisor designation.
