Captains take command of Suns

September 02, 2004

EASTLAKE, Ohio - The only thing longer than the road and the season are the Hagerstown Suns' losing streaks.

Mike Whitney drove in three runs - including two in the first inning - Wednesday to lead Lake County to a 6-2 win over the Suns, handing Hagerstown it's seventh straight loss.

The Suns (20-45, 48-84) have four losing streaks of at least seven games this season, which includes three of them in the second half.

The Suns lost all five games of the road trip, despite collecting at least 10 hits in four of the games.

Whitney had a two-run double off Suns starter Ryan Callahan in the first and added his third RBI with a fielder's choice in the fifth as the Captains pulled out to a 5-1 lead.

Jonathan Armitage drove in both Hagerstown runs with run-scoring singles in the fourth and eight innings.
