Mobile homes demolished as new phase of development begins

September 02, 2004|by GREGORY T. SIMMONS

The remaining mobile homes on land at the intersection of Burhans and Elgin boulevards are being torn down as part of a redevelopment project.

Glenn Worgan, project manager with Pennrose Properties, said the homes recently were bought from their owners to make room for a new phase for the Gateway Crossing public housing development.

Those living in the mobile homes were given assistance in finding new homes under a federal program.

Parts of Gateway Crossing have already opened.

On completion it will include 290 subsidized rental homes and 64 owner-occupied homes.
