Movies opening this week

· "The Cookout" (PG-13) - When Todd Anderson (Storm P) is chosen as the No. 1 NBA draft pick by the New Jersey Nets, he signs a contract for $30 million that instantly changes his life. His mom, Lady Em, is not going to let her son forget his roots. When Todd buys a new house and mistakenly invites family from the old neighborhood for a cookout on the same day he scheduled an endorsement interview, chaos erupts. Todd must choose between his origins and newfound celebrity. Also starring Eve, Frankie Faison, Farrah Fawcett and Danny Glover.

· "Vanity Fair" (PG-13) - This new film version of the classic novel by William Makepeace Thackeray centers on Rebecca Sharp (Reese Witherspoon). Born into the lower class, Becky relies on her wit, guile and sexuality to make her way up through London society, circa 1820. Jim Broadbent, Eileen Atkins, James Purefoy and Jonathan Rhys Meyers also star.
