Nominees sought for People's Choice Awards

August 31, 2004|by SCOTT BUTKI

If you know unsung heroes in Washington County who give selflessly of their time, the Community Foundation of Washington County, MD, Inc. wants to hear from you, Executive Director Brad Sell said Monday.

For the fifth year, the organization is taking nominations for its People's Choice Awards, Sell said.

The awards are a way to honor people who normally are not recognized for their good deeds, Sell said.

About 40 to 60 people usually are nominated for the award and a panel of judges chooses three winners, he said.

A copy of the nomination form was printed on page F2 of the Money section of Sunday's Herald-Mail, Sell said. People also can get nomination forms by calling the foundation at 301-745-5210, he said.

Nominations for the People's Choice Awards can be mailed to Community Foundation of Washington County, 14606 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

The deadline for nominations is Oct. 1, he said. The three winners will be announced at a Nov. 4 banquet at Four Points Sheraton.

A $5,000 endowment will be established at the foundation on behalf of each winner, to benefit a nonprofit organization of their choice, he said.
