August 29, 2004

The following are quotes from a peace and unity rally held Saturday in conjunction with the Keedysville Ruritan Festival:

"Sharing knowledge brings true freedom. It's only ignorance that attracts people and their hate and prejudice to that 'K-club.'"

- Sevan Birky, Boonsboro

"They (the Klan supporters) accused us of scaring them away, so we felt victorious."

- Dina Coe, 61, Great Cacapon, W.Va.

Coe attended the KKK rally in Sharpsburg to show her opposition to the Klan before going to Keedysville

"We needed an alternative to support peace and diversity and to let them know their message of hate is not reaching us."

- Linda Smith, Hagerstown
